Agile is dead!

XP, Scrum, Crystal Methods...what ever Agile methodology you use, take note of this conference. Especially note the "Register now" link. It looks like Agile is dead.

Heading to Dallas

I'll be speaking at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Fox User Group on Thursday, March 2. Topics are "Integrating Crystal Reports with VFP" and "Coder to Developer". If you live in the DFW area, I hope you can make it.

Presentation Jitters

Having done presentations at several Fox conferences and user groups around the world, I think I know what to do and what not to do when speaking to a group. What things do people need to know about a topic and what should be left out. I no longer get nervous before doing a presentation for the first time or speaking in front of a new group, even when English is not their preferred or first language.

Tuesday morning I will be doing my first ASP.Net presentation as part of a two day training class at Microsoft's Salt Lake City offices. And I'm quite nervous. I haven't done anything with ASP.Net other than play around with it. What questions should I expect? What things do people really need to see or know about? What stuff is different in ASP.Net 2.0 compared to 1.1? Microsoft supplied me with the slides and demos, but I still have to fill in all the gaps.

The good news is the Microsoft people know that I'm nervous about this and that my .Net skills are still in the "newbie" category. Hopefully things will go fine.

CERT confirms it...Windows is more secure!

I've been saying for years that Windows is as secure as Linux/Unix and the day would come when it was more secure. That day is here. According to CERT, Linux/Unix has more flaws than Windows. In 2005, there were 812 vulnerabilities reported for Windows, but 2, 328 for Unix/Linux. Read the entire report. However, Windows is still more likely to be infected just because of the huge install base, it's a better target for malware authors. What should you do? Always install patches when they become available and run anti malware software.

Fox videos updated

After my post yesterday, I was cc-ed on an email from Microsoft to Craig Boyd on the use of the Foxhead logo in his videos. Microsoft provided him with some images that he can use and he has updated the videos to use the new logos and also some royalty free music. Kudos to Microsoft for not being heavy handed with him and giving him time to change the marketing videos as well as his learning VFP videos that he has done. And kudos to Craig for his efforts in supporting, promoting, and advancing the VFP community.

Communuty Marketing and Legal Rights

Visual FoxPro MVP Craig Boyd has produced a couple of great VFP Flash ads (seen here and here). Kudos on a job well done....but I'm concerned about copyright violations. The Fox head logo as well as the music used are either copyrighted or trademarked.
